June Wrap-Up: What We Learned This Month at Preschool Liverpool

Can you believe we are already halfway through the year? June has absolutely flown by here at Rainbow Hut Early Learning Centre, and what a nourishing month it has been! As the air turned crisp and the beanies came out, our little learners across our Liverpool, Blacktown, and Prestons locations have been busier than ever.

As a family-owned small business, we truly treasure these moments of growth. Our "Children First" policy means every activity we planned this month was designed to unleash the full potential of our precious Penguins (0-3 years) and Koalas (3-5 years). From icy science experiments to cozy multicultural storytimes, June was a month of deep discovery and, of course, a whole lot of fun and learning.

If you’ve been looking for a preschool Liverpool families trust to provide a meticulous and growth-oriented environment, this wrap-up is the perfect sneak peek into our daily life. Let’s dive into what our little stars have been up to!

Chilly Science: Exploring the Magic of Ice

Winter isn't just about cold toes; it’s a giant outdoor laboratory! This month, we leaned heavily into Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) Outcome 4, which focuses on children becoming confident and involved learners.

Our Koalas took part in some pretty "cool" STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) activities. One of the biggest hits was the “Frozen Animal Rescue.” We froze some of our favorite toy animals in large blocks of ice and challenged the children to find ways to get them out.

Through this simple play-based activity, our educators guided them to ask big questions:

  • “Why is the ice melting when we drop warm water on it?”
  • “What happens if we sprinkle salt on the ice?”
  • “Can we use our hands to warm it up?”

Watching their eyes light up as they "rescued" a dinosaur or a tiger was a highlight for us. It’s these moments of interactive learning that build the foundation for critical thinking. Meanwhile, our younger Penguins in the 0-3 room enjoyed sensory play with "clean mud" (shaving foam and glitter) and felt the difference between cold water and warm cloths, helping them build their vocabulary and sensory awareness.

Nature Walks & Caring for Our World

At Rainbow Hut Early Learning Centre, we place a strong value on nurturing an appreciation for nature. Even in the colder months, we believe it’s vital for children to connect with the world around them.

Our preschool Liverpool children spent many mornings on "Winter Scavenger Hunts." We donned our jackets and headed into our purpose-built outdoor facilities to look for signs of the changing seasons.

We looked for:

  • The "skeleton" branches of deciduous trees.
  • The way the morning dew sparkles on the grass.
  • Local birds finding food in the cold.

These walks aren't just for exercise; they are a core part of our commitment to mindful practices. By teaching children to notice the small details in nature, we are building their capacity for empathy and environmental stewardship: directly linking to EYLF Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world.

Whether at our Blacktown campus watching the clouds or at Prestons observing a winter garden, we make sure every child feels a sense of belonging to their local environment.

Staying Warm, Healthy, and Independent

Winter brings its own set of challenges, especially when it comes to the "sniffle season." June was a fantastic time to focus on EYLF Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing.

In both the Penguins and Koalas rooms, we’ve been practicing our self-help skills. For our older children, this means:

  • Mastering the "zipper" on their winter jackets.
  • Learning how to tuck their scarves in safely.
  • Understanding the importance of thorough handwashing to keep the "germ bugs" away.

We believe in a partnership with our families. By encouraging these skills at the centre, we’re helping you at home, too! It’s all about building that school readiness and independence. We also explored "Warm Body Foods," talking about how healthy soups and warm porridges give us the energy to play even when it’s chilly outside.

Literacy, Stories, and Multicultural Magic

Diversity is at the heart of everything we do. Our commitment to multiculturalism means we are constantly sharing stories from different cultures and beliefs. This June, our literacy sessions were extra cozy.

We used our School Readiness Program to dive into winter-themed books, but we also integrated technology to bring these stories to life. Utilizing our Technology Integration tools, we watched videos of how winter looks in different parts of the world: from the snowy peaks of the Himalayas to the rainy forests of South America.

For our families who speak Hindi, we continued our language lessons through songs and games. Seeing a child’s face light up when they hear a song in their home language is one of the most precious parts of our day. It fosters a deep sense of identity and respect for individual beliefs.

Messy Play: The Best Kind of Learning!

You can't have a month at Rainbow Hut without a bit of mess! Art and creativity are essential for developing fine motor skills and self-expression.

This month, we experimented with "Ice Painting." The children used frozen blocks of colored paint to create beautiful, swirling masterpieces on paper. As the paint melted, the colors blended in ways they didn't expect. This kind of open-ended art allows children to lead their own learning and express their feelings without the pressure of "getting it right."

Looking Ahead: A Future-Ready July

As we wrap up June, we want to thank all our families for your ongoing support. Whether you are part of our community in Liverpool, Blacktown, or Prestons, we value the long-term relationships we are building with you and your children.

We are constantly updating our knowledge and mediums of interactive learning to ensure we provide the best possible start for your little ones. Shaping young minds is a responsibility we take seriously, but we always make sure there is plenty of room for laughter and "fun learning."
