It usually starts with a sigh. Or a huff. Sometimes, it’s a full-on pencil-drop, the universal sign of a four-year-old who has reached their limit.
"I can't do it."
We’ve all heard it. In our classrooms at Rainbow Hut Early Learning Centre, Liverpool, we hear it often. Whether it’s trying to navigate the tricky loops of a capital 'S,' struggling to zip up a jacket before heading out to the sandpit, or figuring out how to share the "fast" red truck, the feeling of "I can't" is heavy. It’s a wall. It’s a full stop.
But at our early learning centre Liverpool, we don’t believe in full stops. We believe in commas. We believe in the most powerful three-letter word in the English language: Yet.
The Weight of a Fixed Mindset
When a child says, "I can't do it," they aren't just expressing frustration. In that moment, they are often operating from what psychologists call a "fixed mindset." They believe their abilities are carved in stone, that they either "have it" or they don’t. If the puzzle piece doesn’t fit immediately, they conclude they are "bad at puzzles."
This is where the magic of soulful teaching comes in. As a small, family-owned childcare service, we see these moments not as failures, but as precious opportunities for growth. We operate with a children first policy, which means we prioritize their emotional resilience just as much as their academic milestones.

The Magic of "Yet": A Story from the Classroom
Let me tell you about a little boy in our Liverpool preschool room, let's call him Kai. Kai loved the idea of drawing a dinosaur, but every time his crayon hit the paper, he got frustrated that it didn't look like the picture in the book.
"I'm not an artist," he told us, bottom lip trembling.
One of our educators knelt down beside him. She didn't say, "Yes you are!" or "It looks great!" (Even though it did). Instead, she said, "You’re right, Kai. You haven't mastered that T-Rex… yet."
The change was subtle but punchy. Kai stopped. He looked at the paper. "Yet?"
"Yet," she whispered. "It just means your hands and your brain are still practicing. They're getting ready."
By adding that one little word, the wall of "I can't" turned into a bridge. It gave Kai permission to be a beginner. It shifted the focus from the finished product to the meticulous and beautiful process of learning.
Why "Yet" Matters for Preschool Liverpool Kids
In the fast-paced world of 2026, resilience is the greatest gift we can give our children. The National Quality Framework and recent updates to the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) emphasize the importance of "Agency" and "Resilience." It’s about building a child’s capacity to navigate a world that is constantly changing.
At Rainbow Hut Early Learning Centre, Liverpool, we are shaping young minds to be brave. A brave learner isn't a child who never fails; a brave learner is a child who isn't afraid to try, fail, and say, "I'm not there yet."
When we foster this growth mindset, we are:
- Building capacity for problem-solving.
- Encouraging intellectual risk-taking.
- Nurturing emotional intelligence.
- Creating a growth-oriented environment where mistakes are celebrated as "brain growth."

Our Philosophy: Long-Term Relationships, Long-Term Success
Rainbow Hut isn't just a place to drop off your kids. We are a family. We have three dedicated locations: Liverpool, Blacktown, and Prestons: and in each one, we focus on building long-term relationships with families and children.
When you join our preschool Liverpool community, we commit to your child’s journey for the long haul. We want to see them go from that frustrated toddler to a confident, "can-do" school-starter. This journey requires a partnership. We invite you to bring the "Power of Yet" into your home, too.
How to Practice "Yet" at Home
You don't need a teaching degree to build a brave learner. You just need to be nourishing and consistent. Here are a few ways to bring the Rainbow Hut vibe into your living room:
- Model the struggle. Next time you can't find your keys or struggle with a new recipe, let your child hear you say, "I haven't figured this out yet, but I'm going to keep trying."
- Praise the process, not the person. Instead of saying "You're so smart," try saying "I love how hard you worked on that tower!" or "You didn't give up, even when it was tricky!"
- Use the "Yet" prompt. When your child says "I can't," gently add the "yet" for them. Every single time.

A Masterclass in Messy Learning
At our early learning centre Liverpool, we know that learning is messy. It’s supposed to be! Whether it’s paint on the floor or a few tears over a difficult task, it’s all part of the fun and learning journey. We embrace the mess because we know that’s where the breakthroughs happen.
We take our role as an Approved Provider and Nominated Supervisor seriously. We are constantly reviewing our Quality Improvement Plan to ensure our environments in Liverpool and Blacktown are providing the best possible support for these brave little learners.
Our program is designed to be inclusive, respecting the multiculturalism and community values that make Liverpool such a vibrant place to live and grow. We believe every child, regardless of their background, deserves to feel the power of their own potential.
